The process

Five steps, agreed with you

The order matters: the site is copied and checked working before the DNS is touched, and the DNS is the only thing a visitor ever notices.

  1. We survey what has to moveWe look at the current platform: versions, databases, mailboxes, certificates and scheduled tasks. That is where the real scope comes from.
  2. We agree the windowYou pick the day and time. For a site that sells, the quietest hours are usually the right ones.
  3. We copy and set upFiles, databases and mail accounts move to the new server, with your live site still untouched.
  4. We check before switchingWe test the site already running on the new server. If anything behaves differently from the original, it is fixed before the switch.
  5. We switch the DNS and stay with itWith everything verified the domain is pointed at the new server. We watch the site over the following days in case anything surfaces.

An incomplete migration shows up late: the site opens but the mail is missing, or the old orders are. That is why the three are surveyed together.

Before we start

What is worth knowing

We would rather say this beforehand than midway. None of it stops a migration, but it changes how one is planned.

DNS takes time to propagate

For some hours part of the world sees the old server and part the new one. That is why the site is left working on both until it finishes.

Access is needed

To copy from your current provider we need panel or server credentials. Without them the move cannot be automated.

Very old software may need work

An application tied to a PHP version that is no longer supported may need adjusting. That shows up in the survey, not halfway through.
